The challenge

1.Ingredient Performance Balance: Local consumers expect visible skin tone improvement within weeks, requiring a delicate balance of natural actives like papain, kojic acid, and niacinamide.

2. Humidity & Shelf Life: Soaps needed to remain stable in high-humidity environments without melting or discoloration.

3.Price Sensitivity: PcMEK requested small-batch production with competitive pricing—demanding full supply chain cost optimization.

4.Fast Go-to-Market Timeline: The launch was tied to an influencer campaign, requiring delivery within 75 days from concept to finished goods.

project goals

in early 2018, Baoshijie Soap partnered with PcMEK Inc., a fast-growing Philippine beauty distributor, to develop a natural papaya-based whitening soap line targeting the local skincare market. The Philippines has a mature demand for papaya soap, known for its brightening and exfoliating effects. PcMEK aimed to launch a differentiated, salon-grade papaya soap under its new consumer brand across both offline retail and e-commerce platforms..

  • Formulate a high-efficacy papaya extract soap combining whitening, anti-acne, and gentle exfoliating functions.

  • Position the product to stand out in a crowded and price-sensitive market segment, while maintaining affordable production costs.

  • Comply with Philippine FDA regulations and ensure product safety testing for tropical skin conditions.
